    Q: How does OptiWell's Child and Babysitting Safety class compare to the Red Cross training?

    It is very similar. Both include safety, play, basic care, safe ways to start a babysitter business, and what to do in emergencies. However, we prefer the BLAST program because it devotes more time to first aid and CPR. Our Babysitter Training includes more pediatric first aid, including CPR and unconcious choking, two skills no longer taught by the Red Cross Babysitter class. In fact we practice on the manikins until we feel we can certify your child in CPR. We also cost less than ARC, especially for groups.

    Sue has been certifying babysitters since 1992 and Don was the first guy to ever teach Babysitting for the San Diego Red Cross in 1999. Since that time, a majority of the babysitters certified in San Diego County were trained by one or both of us. So if you've heard great things about their past Babysitter Trainers, that's us! We're here now and we've gone into business together to offer YOU an even better program!

    Q: Who or what is OptiWell?

    Sue and Don, the Optimum in Wellness Training!
    OptiWell, Inc. was incorporated in San Diego, CA in April 2004 by Sue Lockhart and Don Ross to provide you with the Optimum in Wellness training! For many years, Sue and Don were the two most requested ARC Workplace CPR and Babysitting Instructors in San Diego County. Following the American dream, they've now gone into business together and have since become a training center for the Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ESCI).

    Sue Lockhart has taught CPR, First Aid, and Child Care for the Red Cross since 1991. Her knowledge of CPR in the workplace and community is truly vast and as a working mom, she brings the subject home in a warm, friendly, down to earth manner. Sue was also honored by the Fire Dept when she received a Life Saving Citation from the City of San Diego after she used her CPR skills to save her two year old nephew who was a near drowning victim.

    Don Ross began teaching as an HIV educator in 1991 and is now an expert in bloodborne pathogens. He ran programs and trained speakers for many agencies in northern and southern California. In 1998 he was hired by the Red Cross, cross-trained as a CPR and Child Care instructor, quickly becoming one of their most requested community trainers (along with Sue). In Feb 2006, Don returned home to northern California to expand OptiWell, however he is still the person you will talk with when you register for a class in San Diego.
